Initial Meeting and Registration
Meet with your Group Leader or training officer. They will explain the process and what's expected of you.
You'll be registered on the database, and an activation link will be sent to you from Scouting Ireland.
Follow the link and fill in your personal details, along with the names and addresses of two referees. Referees cannot be family members, and you can only have one Scouting Ireland member.
Prepare Your Documents
Download and print the Garda Vetting Form (NVB1) available from here
For the Name of Organisation write "Scouting Ireland - 12th Dublin 5th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts"
For the Role being Vetted for, write "Scouter."
Make a copy of your Photo ID. Accepted documents include a passport, an Irish/EU/UK driving license, or a National Identity Card (EU/EEA/Swiss Citizens)
Make a copy of your Proof of Address. This document must be dated within the last 6 months. Accepted documents include a bank statement (excluding Revolut), a utility bill (gas, electricity, TV, broadband, waste, TV license), or official correspondence from a government body or local authority.
Second Meeting and Submission
Meet with your Group Leader or training officer again. Bring the completed NVB1 form and the copies of your Photo ID and Proof of Address. You must also bring your original Photo ID for them to validate.
Your Group Leader will validate your documents and form, then send everything to the Scouting Ireland National Office. Scouting Ireland, National Office, Larch Hill, Dublin 16, D16PO23
Online Vetting and Training
The Scouting Ireland vetting department will validate your identity and send you an email with a link to complete the online vetting process.
Once you've completed this, you'll get a notification that your vetting is successful.
Complete the required training modules:
Story of Scouting module (a 3-hour evening course). This is required if you were not a youth member of Scouting Ireland.
Being a Scouter (BAS) course. You can book both modules on my.scouts.ie. (information on booking training is available here)
After completing the BAS course, you can attend meetings and be counted in the required ratios. Until then, you can attend a few meetings as an observer to see if Scouting is right for you.
